DUTY

DUTY

My postings have been lax lately- not able to paint because I'm with mother in the nursing home. I expect to resume soon. Meanwhile, I'll leave this quote found on Robert Genn's website. He has an encyclopedia of art quotes, among many other generous resources.

" Do the duty which lies nearest to you. The second duty will then become clearer." Thomas Carlyle.

.......detail from a recent painting. Eggs, motherhood. Fits, don't you think?

WHITE SUMMER

WHITE SUMMER

Wanted you to see this one again. Ok, I wanted to see this one again. Sometimes I like a painting, and it goes right out the door while still wet to the gallery. This one went to the
Smith Barney "Salute to North Alabama Artists" Reception and Show
Tuesday July 15, 5 to 8pm
to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation
I have 14 paintings there, and I hope you can stop by to check out the Smith Barney Open House.
"White Summer" is subtle, like the light at the end of a steamy summer day. There are many paintings that I would enjoy here at home, but the ultimate is that a painting finds its' permanent home with another family. If you select it, may I come visit it??
oil, about 24x36

ROLLING ON THE RIVER

Thanks for the title, Tina Turner......................

I wish the pink showed better in this photo.. Perhaps you can see that I had a "series" in mind ( yesterday's blog) when I painted the eggs and now the duck family on the Tennessee river. Let's say 2 makes a series... I found this group and snapped the photo as they passed the pontoon boat. Lucky shot. Mom looks proud - and I don't even have all the babies in the painting!

NATURE CALLS

DETAIL:

The common practice of gallery artists is to paint in a "series". It's good to have a collection with a similar theme of subject or color. This oil painting came from my files, and just jumped to the top of my list to paint. The combination of composition, nature subject, light pattern, and the challenge of how to apply that paint became important today. Tomorrow I'll show you the next painting I've done, and we can call them a series.
