SUNSET SKETCH

Shem Creek Sunset 11x14, oil on linen

Those who have lived or visited Charleston know Shem Creek as the place where shrimp boats and good restraunts come together.   In December we visited and experienced a gorgeous sunset one evening, then I tried to return the next evening to paint on location, hoping for that show stopping sunset again.  This sunset was not as dramatic, but just getting this plein air sketch done in an hour was sheer pleasure.  How to record those subtle colors and that drama of the last drop of the sun?
